Part 4 Age 24 Year 8925

Victima waited nervously by her parents hospital bedroom as the early morning hours approached. All across the empire news of Empress Calpurnia’s current condition was met with worried anticipation. Victima was both excited and nervous as the final hours approached. Short bursts of screaming were met by long periods of silence. One particular scream nearly drove Victima to panic, as she jumped out of her seat upon the deafening cry of pain.

Soror came up to sit beside Victima, as she stared at the far side of the room with an exhaustive expression on her face. Soror placed her arm around Victima and embraced her. “It’s alright, your mother will be fine.”

“I know, but I’m still so worried. It must be agonizing for her.” Victima nodded.

“She’s a tough one, I know she’ll be fine.”

“Was it really this excruciating when we were born? Is this what I have to look forward to when I become a mother?”

“Let’s not worry about that. Let’s just be there for the Empress.” Soror said.

The two sat in silence, as the moments ticked by. Victima lifted her head and sighed. “Did you update Augusto’s crew on the situation?”

“Yes, but they’re still stuck on the frontline, I don’t know when they’ll respond.”

Victima sighed. Only Four years had passed and Victima found herself witnessing the next great human expansion, as the human led UNU began a campaign to fully annex every star system in the neighboring region. While her father approved of the action both he and Victima were worried as they noticed cracks in the military. The past year saw a major crackdown of disloyal imperial officials and the expulsion of many officers in the Ikaeu Armed Forces. Those soldiers, loyal to the Imperial Family, reported an increase of illegal weapon sales to anti human groups in the region. The worry for everyone’s safety dawned upon Victima now more then ever with her mother in labor.

As the long hour ended and the time changed yet again the two heard one last shout come from the hospital room, then silence. Moments later a new voice came from the room, the sound of a small voice crying. It was so faint at first Victima could not even hear it. The two waited in suspense until a nurse opened the door and turned toward the two. She bowed and smiled. “My Grace may I congratulate you on being the first to hear the happy news on the birth of your new baby brother.”

“He’s finally here? I have to see him!” Victima jumped up with joy.

“Congratulations!” Soror gave Victima a huge hug.

The two were given special clothing before entering a small space where they were decontaminated. Upon entering a large room the two saw another nurse take a newborn baby out of a tiny bath then place the child into hands of Victima’s mother. She looked ragged and exhausted, as she took the baby and started cradling it. Victima’s father looked up to see her and Soror stand by the door eyes wide open.
